Perfection embodied
Luke 23: 4
No one ever lived like Jesus. He lived a perfect life; the only human ever to do so. He owed no debts – moral, spiritual or physical. Jesus instructed His disciples: “This, then, is how you should pray:...Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Matt. 6: 9, 12), but He never prayed for forgiveness for Himself.
Jesus was the only One who could say with regard to God the Father, “I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” He challenged His critics, “Can any of you prove Me guilty of sin?” (John 8:46). Again and again, when the legal scholars and religious leaders of the day charged Him with violating the law of Moses, Jesus cited the Law and proved that He was the only One who fully comprehended its intent and its application.
Examine the great religions and religious leaders of the world; none of them could say these things. None of them would have dared. But Jesus did. Because He was sinless and thus free from the penalty of death, he could offer Himself for our sins. He was the perfect sacrifice.
What did Jesus redeem you from? Spend some time now thanking Him.

Rwanda: From Death to Life YWAM participates in a nation's healing By Tim Heathcote "Genocide Hits Fishing Industry"... the bizarre newspaper headline caught my eye as I walked through the dusty Kampala streets. It was mid-1994; I was travelling in Uganda, as the genocide in neighbouring Rwanda was ending. I bought the paper and read about the 50,000 corpses that had flowed down the Nyabarongo River, a tributary of the Nile, into Lake Victoria. Tens of thousands of bodies had washed up on the Ugandan shores and in the Masaka District, 50 bodies were buried every hour for weeks. The reality of this struck home that night when my Ugandan host apologised that she couldn't feed me the large and delicious Nile Perch, as she had on previous visits. These carnivorous fish had fed on the floating corpses and my friend commented with dark humor that she didn't want to eat a dead relative from Rwanda. Rwanda was quite literally exporting death to the surrounding nations.
I dwelt on this macabre thought recently as I flew in to visit YWAM Rwanda. On July 4, 1994, the capital Kigami fell to the Tutsi-led Rwandan Patriotic Front and the genocide ended. On the heels of the victorious RPF army, thousands of Rwandan exiles began to return to their homeland. Among them were long-term Rwandan YWAMers Method and Mary Kamanzi. The Kamanzis did their DTSes in 1984 and worked primarily with YWAM Kenya for the next decade. They returned from exile to pioneer YWAM's work in Rwanda.
The Kamanzis rented a house and began building relationships. They often had an extended family of 10-15 people as they adopted and raised Hutu orphans. Much of their time was spent counseling, praying and meeting peoples' physical needs. Many sleepless nights followed hearing their neighbors' traumatic stories. They were very aware of God's protection; for two years they lived oblivious to a hidden war relic buried in their gateway, until one day a cow trod on the landmine and was blown to pieces.
